breathe \\ chor + davey’s same-day edit

by: Chris Dumlao

When I first met with Chor + Davey, they had told me that they originally were not going to have their wedding filmed.  GASP!  I obviously believe that no wedding should ever go undocumented, and when they described what their wedding was going to be like, I was shocked that that thought had even crossed their mind.

Chor + Davey wanted to highlight their cultural backgrounds in their wedding – Chor being Chinese and Davey, Filipino.  So, of course, they had to have two ceremonies.  In the tea ceremony, I loved how Chor wore a traditional Chinese formal gown while Davey wore the traditional Filipino formal attire known as the “barong tagalog.”  After a fun photo shoot with the incomparable Chaz Cruz, and a quick dress change, Chor + Davey walked down the aisle atop the beautiful Omni Hotel – set to the backdrop of Downtown San Diego for their traditional American wedding!  Their anxiety and enthusiasm was infectious.

Afterwards, the guests moved from the Palm Terrace down to the Grand Ballroom where the reception was held.  As I sat in my little corner editing the same-day edit just outside the ballroom, I was constantly tempted to sneak back in because of all the fun and commotion I kept hearing inside.  The guests were treated to a first-dance serenade by popstar, Ashley Robles!  Later in the evening, I was startled when I heard a loud cymbal crash followed by a steady, energetic rhythm of a drum.  I quickly rushed inside and saw two lions dancing amongst the crowd – performed by the Lucky Lion Dancers!  Incredible!!

So what’s the moral of this story?  Don’t ever count out cinematography for your wedding.  Otherwise, this is what you’ll be missing…

Thanks, On Wai! I’ve been dying to use this song ever since I heard it a long time ago. Angels & Airwaves ROCK! I wonder what’s going to happen to them since Blink 182 is back together again…?

      • On Wai Lau says:

Tom is still planning to release another album with AVA. The new album is titled “Love” and should be released on February 14, 2010. It will be interesting when Blink 182 release their new album and possibly +44.

        • Chris Dumlao says:

My daughter’s name is Ava. But not because of Angels & Airwaves, it’s actually from a song by Smashing Pumpkins called Ava Adore. But, I think I’ll start crediting Angels & Airwaves. :)

  • Having your Same Day Edits and Cinematography is like being able to be everywhere at once on the wedding day. With cinematography in a wedding, the couple really doesn’t miss a thing. Fantastic work guys!

  • WHOA!! That was awesome work! Totally proved your point !!!

  • Tiffany Javier says:

Thank you Tiff! It makes me happy that you continue to watch our films even after we’ve completed yours. Thanks so much for you and Harvey’s support. Starcross’d <3 you both!

Davey and I had been searching for a good videographer for roughly eight months. Interview after interview, we were not impressed with what we saw. With no luck, we simply gave up the search. Fortunately, our photographer Chaz Cruz sensed our frustration and referred us to Starcross’d. We trust Chaz completely and he understood what we were looking for. With only two months left, we finally found our videographer! We never once doubted what Starcross’d could do for us on our wedding day and we knew they would capture the emotions of our special day.

Thank you Starcross’d for this awesome SDE! We can’t wait to see the entire video! We are truly grateful to be able to share this video with our families in the Philippines and Hong Kong who were unable to make it to our wedding. Once again, thank you for allowing us to see our wedding through your eyes.

    • Chris Dumlao says:

      Chor,

We are so grateful to Chaz for referring us to you. And I’m so glad that both you and Davey understand the value in a good wedding film. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. You are a beautiful bride, and Davey is blessed to have you as his wife. Not only were we privy to such a grand wedding, we’ve also made two good friends in the process.

Congratulations again to the both of you! :)

AWESOME! you guys really expressed the two different cultures very well! thank you for choosing Starcross’d to capture your day! i’m glad you were happy with our service! Congrats to you and Davey!
