I hope everyone had a fun and safe Labor Day Weekend.  What did Starcross’d do?  Why, we worked of course!  And not only did we just work and film three weddings, but we challenged ourselves and knocked out 3 same-day edits for each of those weddings, and also did a shoot for our next concept film on the 4th day!  Whew!  And we had a great time doing it.

Day 1 started on Friday with Heidi + Joe’s wedding at the Mission Bay Hyatt here in San Diego.  At the end of the night, our four-man crew drove up to Anaheim where we stayed the night and prepared for Day 2 with Kathy + Ruben’s wedding in Chino Hills, San Dimas, and finally back to Anaheim for the reception.  Day 3 took us up the California coast on Pacific Highway 1 where Karen + Mikey’s wedding took place in beautiful Santa Monica.  The night ended with fireworks, and we finally drove back home to San Diego, where Day 4 was filled with fun and laughter as we began principal photography for Lorelee + Leo’s concept film (premiering in October).

Odd as it may sound, but it was a great way to spend our Labor Day weekend!  The Starcross’d team reunited with some old friends and met a whole bunch of new ones.  And now, it’s time for me to upload all these videos online!

Starcross’d is featured in the May issue of EventDV magazine!! And we were all so excited to discover that we were also featured on the cover (special thanks to Brian Abiva Photography for producing such cool photos)!

And a big thank you goes to Editor-in-Chief Stephen Nathans-Kelly for deciding to do this piece on our studio, and to Elizabeth Avery Merfeld for writing an awesome article. It’s a real honor!

Here’s a link to read the article:

To complement the piece, we were asked to create a short “how to” video on the making of our concept film, Sin City Love Story. So in the spirit of Robert Rodriguez, I created a 5-Minute Film School and an All Green Screen Version! You can view these featurettes on the above link or on vimeo here:

starcross’d re:framed

by: Chris Dumlao   |  No Comments

A couple weeks ago, we attended a workshop in New Orleans called Re:Frame – where it was exclusive to only 50 wedding videography companies.  It was an incredible atmosphere being with some of the best in the wedding industry who share the same passion as we do for the art of storytelling through video.  We are constantly on the wave of reinvention and finding creative inspiration in different avenues; and New Orleans was definitely the place for all that - the birthplace of jazz, in the heart of the French Quarter!

As we approach the new year, we are excited to incorporate the new ideas that have inspired us from the filmmaking talks we had in New Orleans.  What is great about our job is that we are limited only to our creativity… and we have yet to discover those limits.

We are re:energized, re:invented, and re:loaded with fresh ideas!  2009 is going to be a great year.

starcross’d 3G

by: Chris Dumlao   |  No Comments

Last Friday, July 11th, 2008 marked a very important day in Starcross’d history – the day that we finally obtained an iPhone! We arrived at the Fashion Valley Apple Store at 6am to find 300 or so people already camped out in front of the store. The line moved at a snail’s pace as we waited 4 more hours until we finally made it inside the store… then another 3 hours for activation!

It was a long wait, but it was totally worth it. We’re loving our new iPhone 3G! We even made it in to the Saturday edition of the San Diego Union Tribune!
